Saturday, April 02, 2005 excuse me, but we WON ! Yesterday the 3rd preliminary rounds took place against Greenridge Secondary School and st Margaret's Secondary School walked off victorious! And , Beccah nabbed the best speaker award ! I'm so proud of you dear (: We were especially nervous because we knew the outcome of that debate would see if we were to advance to the quarter finals!Luckily, the adjudicators this time round were pretty nice. They didn't torture us by implying that the proposition was stronger in their commentary speech at least ! Hahas. I'm totally on cloud nine ! After the debate, which ended at around 8pm + , we hung around because we wanted to hear who had gotten into the quarter finals. We had to wait on hour for the last group of debates, and another hour for them to tabulate the results. We knew we'd get in, we just didn't want the announcement to echo in silence (: Those two hours were HILARIOUS. It was gorgeous fun rambling on and on with Charity, Frances, Elizabeth, Beccah, Dorcas, Elena and Clara! We started singing at the top of our voices in the Yusof Ishak canteen... Causing half the world to stare at us (: Oh yes, and before that I had a conversation with the english teachers - Mrs Raj, Mdm Su, Ms Shen and Mr koh . Laura: Excuse me, but can you postpone the english exam? It's a very bad day to have an exam. Ms Shen: Why ask me? The english HOD is right in front of you. Laura: Mrs Raj, it's very important you change the day of the english exam! Mrs Raj: You can't ask me, you must ask mrs Tan! Laura: eeeh . (in a look of exasperation and defeat) Ms Shen: Why do you want to change it anyway? Laura: It's a a very important day. It's my birthday!!!!!! And if you don't change it I'm going to write something really melodramatic about how tragic it is to be sitting for an exam when it's your birthday and how it should be made illegal ! Ms Shen: Laura, the way you write is always melodramatic. Laura: No?! Hello, it's not! Mdm Su: Hey you know, this girl, just wrote me a 2000 word essay. Ms Shen: (stares) Laura, I'm glad I don't teach you anymore. Everytime I mark your essay I have to flip through the dictionary. Mr Koh: Hahas she's preparing to write her thesis! Mrs Raj: Hey laura, how long did you take to write it? There isn't so much time during the exam you know. Laura: About two hours. But I wont write like that all the time ! Then I found out from kohster that the essay writing competition only gives about an hour. icks. I quite dislike so little time because I like cognitating and being given enough time to put out a good piece of work. ): Anyway, Elizabeth and I had such a good time teasing Frances. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA . Our plan was sheer genius, I tell you. And she totally fell for it! It was rather crazy last night. Frances and I were dancing the tango in the hall of Yusof Ishak ! We went up early, and there was no one there lol ! Finally, at about 10.30pm, they finally commenced the announcement of results! They started with C division, our division. The first was Tanjong Katong... And St Margaret's was SECOND out of about forty schools! (: I think it's fantastic considering one of our debates was won through a split decision. Woohhooo !!! All of us screamed like there was no tommorrow ! The only people that made more noise was MGS, typically. But that was because they had two teams and supporters! We only had .. Beccah, Elizabeth, Charity, Frances, Cheryl, Clara and I !! (; Here are some people I would like to shout out to : Mr Oh-so-Cool Geek aka Kohster : Without you and Ms shen, debate wouldn't even exist. Thanks for being such a dedicated, nice teacher, willing to discuss things at length even though its night and your personal time! We appreciate things like that very muchly. And thanks for all the treats and thanks in advance for the ones you still owe the team and me (: You're obviously invaluable to the team so I shall not go on for fear your head gets bloated . Mrs Mary Lee: Oh great woman. Thank you for devoting so much time to the team! Seven to eight hours a day are no mean feat . You've taught us so much and drilled into us what it means to debate. I think you work as hard as we do , ploughing through the infinite amount of research ! Thanks for providing lunch as well as the dessert on friday (: Beccah dear: Hello Miss Best Speaker. The title is in itself self-explainatory of just how fantastic you are as a debator ! You have my respect and pride always (: Thanks for being both a friend and debate team mate, and in both roles support me as we race down these challenging paths together. We will go far, we've gone farther than we've ever been before. Frances moron: You totally rocked okay. You are my hero so keep on doing what you do, keep on improving, keep on shining like the star that you are. And put out your album soon lahh. Thanks for making debate fun ! Clara: Madam ! Thanks for sourcing all our blazers! Thanks for contributing so much to the team over what, 9-10 debates since last year? You're a seasoned debator already dude ! Cheryl: You! You have to speak the next round and I'm totally sure you are going to stun us with your amazing debating skills! Just work hard and don't be pressurized (: Hahs. The Scrabble interschools were today. First we were up against RI and I thrashed my opponent to bits ! +Sadistic smile. I discovered that he was in Nanyang same time as I was! That's why I found him so familiar. We're the same age too. Second game was against Hwa Chong Institution. Beat them soundly as well. HAHAh. What a reversal. Feels good I must say. But I was slightly irked by the fact the Hwa Chong guy played the word "Stablering" when it obviously didnt exist to waste my time? Sheesh . Anyway... byee.
