Friday, September 10, 2004 Wow . I am such a regular blogger ! +BEAMS . anyways. Ysterday was the Life Science Spelling Bee ! Horribly embarressing day it was . +Shakes head sadly. Poor me !Firstly , i went to school to meet the DITZ, cassie , and resh so we could leave together for the competition . And, just as we were boarding the bus , i realized i had forgotten to bring my EZ link card! How very disheartening . So I had to pay for my MRT ride also ... And embarressing thing number One happened. Cassie and Resh went through the barrier things after tapping their cards .. And they were walking ... And then they suddenly realized my glorious presence was saddeningly, absent, so they looked back. Ah. I was kind of stuck , and wondering why my card , that I was so frentically tapping , did not cause those stupid barriers to lift up and let me through . So I thought maybe I was doing it wrongly, so i stooped down and checked for any card slots to put my card into. Then , the evil things started snorkling with laughter and left poor me standing in bewilderment. +rolls . Apparently , I was tapping on the 'exit' barriers. Sheesh! The entrance and exits look the same! Anyone could have made that mistake. After the train ride, I took METICULOUS care to ensure I was exiting through the right lane. [: Singapore Poly is connected to the station! So cool. And Singapore Poly is GiNormous! Gargantuan! We were at the wrong building , so we asked the students [i presume] for directions to our building. They don't even know okay ! Then one guy told us : Oh , you know Mcdonalds? It's in front of it. After the next bus stop. whhhhaaat. Bus Stop ? Sheesh . So , after searching and searching and walking around in buildings that looked exactly the same , we arrived. +claps. We entered the theaterette , and guess who were sitting in front and behind us ? Canberra. And two of them are the female debators ! lol. I keep seeing the same people! interschool debates, mayor's shield, model UN conference... even scrabble ! And now , the spelling bee. The whole auditorium was packed .. All the schools sent in two teams. They tested us 50 life science words... It's uber hilarious ! We don't even know the spastarded words that are being said ! All guesswork. The only one that was easy was phagocytes. The rest were words like: Isoshyzoma , Pseudomonous Araginocia , Sclarenchymer, Mizencathelon, Sacromycis Hombi, Caticolameens, Prosteglandins, Sterchbylliogen, Prezbiopia etc. Like hello ? ex SQUEEZE me , but are we supposed to know them ?? But it was really funny , because it was so ridiculous! After the spelling was the crosswords part .. It's SUPER saddening ! All the stuff tested we learnt at the NJC genome thingamajig, but we all forgot !! We were almost weeping at the wasted opportunity. If we had listened ! Then came the FUN part : Anagramming ! They called it word unscrambling , but it's anagramming ! So fun okies. They flashed the meaning of the word , and the jumbled up letters. I got the first answer on my very first try ! it was 'PRIMERS' . HAHA ! Used my scrabble skills [: LOL. After , these words , or meaning, flashed out: A skin condition / disease that results in dryness [yadadadada] Cassie and I Screamed. we actually screamed. lol ! SO funny okayy. Because we both have it! It was super cool. That one , we didn't even have to unscramble. ECZEMA. [: After that was the word search thing. We found most of it, 5/6. We didn't know what the last word was, so we just circled 'STONES' haha ! How relevant to life science , yes. And now , let me tell you the most embarressingly embarressing thing of the day . After the competition proper was over, there was the audience participation. Two microphones were placed in the aisles, [similar to floor debate] and the woman would read out words , and people were supposed to go up and spell it. So when she read a really easy word , plasmolysis , I decided to go up . I was writing in on my paper and walking up at the same time , because I didn't see anyone approaching. Then ZOOP! this RGS girl just stood in front of me ! I was like okayyyy. Then , I just went back to my seat , quite irked. After that, the lady read out "Now, this is antibiotics..." So , after hearing the words 'antibiotic' , I zoomed out of my seat, knocking some chairs, to the front of the mic , only to hear her finish her sentence: antibiotic called QueneiQuli ! [or smth] Then the whole auditorium just started laughing at me running up quickly after being too slow, and not hearing properly! Oh WOE IS ME ! I went up , and my eyes bulged out and said. "oh. erh. I don't know." HOW RIDICULOUSLY EMBARRESSING ! Then, when she read out 'insulin' , someone just had to rush out again. So, knocking into chairs and all , I reached the mic and spelt it out. Then the horrible lady said: 'Oh , I think she came first.' , gesturing at the girl on the other side. Sheesh ! I already spelt it out , duhhhh , she'd get it correct! So , once agn , I walked back to my seat , very , very paiseh-edly. So tragic. Not even a nice prize for my pains ! [My pains being my ego and my bruised knees] So after , they announced the finalists. Guess who ? Nanyang Team 'A' . Nanyang Team 'B'. RI Team 'A' and -drumroll- RI Team 'B'. How amusing. +yawns. Cassie , Resh and I tried to trace our way back .. Took such a LONG time! But we got out in the end [: I was to take MRT home , by myself ! Quite worried. I followed resh , but she told me I would have to change Line at a certain stop , and She wouldn't be able to follow me. But I am , an extremely brave girl and I took it myself. +nods. HAHA ! To boost my courage , I talked to beccah the WHOLE trip ! She's so nice. HARHAR. Speaking of beccah , she wants me to update abt the rest of the debates , and our outing , so I shall oblige since she was nice enough to talk to me. The second debate was against Woodgrove Secondary . And it too , was hilarious! We videotaped this one , and as I played back the speech of their third speaker, I just laughed and laughed! It was SOOO funny ! "Ours is relevant, yours is not!" , "We already told you, so why do you keep rebutting us?" All said in a very nervous voice , and as if we were picking on them ! And her POI was completely: huhhh? The way she tried to tackle it was so amusing! I don't think even SHE knew what she was talking abt . I am so mean. After all , I didn't do much better [or worse] than her in the third debate ... +sigh . The whole debate team went to go watch the finals cum prize giving ceremony. Nanyang against MGS! I seriously did NOT want to go see them debate , I just wanted to go for the trophies ! HARHAR. Actually it was cuz beccah and I wanted to go get teacher's day's presents for MsShen Impossible and Kohster! So anyway, we went and saw, as usual , that MGS delegated it's usual contingent / fleet of ardent supporters to grace the auditorium! And I must say , I was especially delighted when these little sailor bots wheeled in waving very patriotic flags ! Little blue flags with the crest of MGS on them . And the way they behaved further proved the name we'd always called them: My father had always called them Monkey Girls School . Not only that! They brought along a huge, metal-pole banner , which they waved patriotically in the air. Swish! SWISH ! SWISHES OF PATRIOTICISM ! SWISH AND WE WILL WIN! SWISH ! SWISH AND HEY! MAYBE IF WE SWISH HARD ENOUGH , WE MIGHT IRRITATE THE AUDIENCE ! Swish ! Swish! sWISH !KLUNK. Instant amnesia. I wish . Upon the heads of the 'oh I'm really short can I speak from here?' debator and her comrades. Oh , what simple joy . HAHA. I am just joking. I don't actually hate MGS or bear a grudge, I am just speaking from a post-trauma attitude, thanks to the screams and blue wavey things that were trying to eat me. And the adjudicators. I think it was student pressure . Can you Imagine ? If MGS lost, the adjudicators would have nowhere to flee, from an auditorium chock full of screaming girls lustily crowing out the names of their debator idols. They would have been stabbed to death with the little flags. okayokay , I'll stop now , lest an MGS girl come by my blog, and leave me with hate mail and stuff. As said, I'm just traumatized. You can't really blame me. Anyway, I was spared from most of it, because as the captain, I got to sit somewhere near the front, next to the reserves for the finalist teams. I happened to be seating next to Nanyang's reserves, whom I chatted with. Very nice people! They were just telling me abt the MGS army and how little of their supporters turned up! They asked me to cheer for them, and I agreed, quite happily. [Nanyang being my alma mater!] Anyway, shall skim over the debate and get down to nice bits: the awards. Firstly, there was a plaque given to all schools , for just participating, which kohster went up to get. Then, there were certificates of participation for all, which the team captains received on behalf of the school. [I still have it. AHH! I havent given it to clara yet.] Then , they gave away the trophies for the semi finalists! [: There was an extra large trophy for the school, which I received, and smaller ones for the rest of us. So cute. After that, they announced the best speakers of the competition. First, Christine from MGS ! [pretty obvious] Then second , rebeccah and third , clara ! I think it's excellent , 2/3 trophies went to st margs ! But I still am and will be slightly sad ... I have never gotten best speaker and was the only one not to. When I'm supposed to have 'the most experience' ! How am I supposed to feel? I don't know, I'm just sad I screwed up. Anyways. Since beccah and I didn't get a present for the 'chers on tuesday, we decided to go out on wednesday! And since we told dorcas we'd do smth for her birthday, we brought her out as well ! Went to Heeren, action city to get Ms Shen's massager. lol. Didn't know what to get for kohster! So difficult to get gifts for. In the end, we got him a sign that said : Don't feed the monkey ! Or something weird like that. And we also got him a sign that said : MACHO MAN ! [you wish] . lol . Then we wrote at the bacK : but you're the macho scrabbler and debator of our hearts! or smth. Really funny . Then the three of us went lunching at marche .. I LOVE tempura fish with wedges! So yummtastic. Then the two pigs wanted desert, so we headed to BK at cineleisure for the hershie's pie. They didn't even let me have some okay . How mean. Then we went up to search for smth else for kohster... And I saw the neoprint machines !! I reallyyy wanted to take some, but stinggyy poo beccah didn't want to take with me! A few whines and dragging and pushes later, dorkie and she finally coughed up harf the amount. I payed the other harf ! So fun! Really nice pix. My favourite is the one that says : Three Musketeers. We really have to take a lot more okay ! Anyway, It's late and I have to study . Nightnight.
